After seeing a total taxable value that increased by $16 million this year, the McKenzie County Commissioners’ goal is to keep the mill levy fairly steady in 2023.
The commissioners approved a preliminary 2023 budget of $209,503.695 during their Aug. 2 meeting, which is up $30 million from last year. Currently the total proposed tax levy is just over $8 million to fund the $209.5 million preliminary budget.
“This year the county saw an increase in total taxable value county-wide moving from $329,067,114 to $345,970,667,” says Erica Johnsrud, McKenzie County auditor/treasurer.
Johnsrud says $4.5 million of that increase was seen in the centrally assessed properties, which includes oil pipelines and natural gas pipelines and another $10 million increase in newly added industrial properties.
