Third grade student Evan Jacobson drew everyone’s attention at the Watford City City Council Meeting on April 3, not just because of his youth or small stature, but because he was officially acting as mayor for a day.
Evan is in Mrs. Brickner’s class at Fox Hills Elementary school. He, along with the other third grade students in McKenzie County Public School District No. 1, wrote an essay for the annual “Mayor for a Day” event that kicks off City Government Week at the schools.
“I really enjoy Mayor for a Day,” said Watford City Mayor Phil Riely at a special assembly for the third graders.
During this assembly, Riely shared what it is like to be mayor, what it was like to see E.T. in the movie theater that was where Door 204 is now, and fielded dozens of questions about how many dads he knows and what restaurants the kids want to see come to town.
