Getting the popular vote is cool and all. But for Watford City High School Principal Jim Green what’s even cooler is when Homecoming candidates are nominated for things like integrity, kindness, determination and humility. So this year, he took it upon himself to change it up a little bit.
“I want you to know that I personally am responsible for changing it,” Green told the students last Friday. “The whole idea is that the Homecoming court is based more so on merit and less so on student popular vote.”
As Green informed the students they still have a voice that can affect the outcome, it’s not a sole area the decision is based on.
“The Homecoming court is an honor and we want the best representatives of our school,” Green said. “This year, we used four different categories to select our vote.”
