Watford City had their first road game in over a month as they traveled to Devils Lake last Friday night. The Firebirds defeated the Wolves 41-7. Both teams came into the game with records of 2-5 and were clinging to slim playoff hopes.
Devils Lake’s offense was prolific from the opening snap as they scored on their first two drives of the game to jump out to a 14-0 lead. “We had a tough time matching up with the size and athleticism of Devils Lake,” said Watford City coach Justin Johnsrud. “They spread the defense out. When we played coverage to try and take away the pass, Devils Lake was able to take advantage with the run game. When we stacked the box, the receivers’ size provided some tough matchups for our DB’s. Their QB did a good job of distributing the football and finding the open receiver.”
